Foreign Language Sponsorships Available

In 2018, the Batesville Community Education Foundation (BCEF) will partially fund the program fees of up to two Batesville High School (BHS) students who are chosen by Indiana University to participate in its honors program in foreign language. This BCEF program is being established using funds received by the foundation through a donation arranged by former BHS German teacher Andy Koors prior to his death in February of last year.

“Andy’s love of foreign language and legacy of giving will continue through this new program,” said Anne Wilson, BCEF executive director. “Students who otherwise might not have been able to pursue their dream of studying abroad while in high school due to financial constraints will hopefully have their burden lightened.”

To qualify for the sponsorship, applicants must be current BHS students who have received official acceptance from Indiana University into the summer 2018 program. Verified financial need is one of the criteria for selection for sponsorship.  Up to two students may be awarded a maximum of $2500 each from BCEF toward IU program fees. The deadline for BCEF applications is February 1.

Information about the program, including the application and instructions, is available on the BCEF website here.  Wilson may be reached at awilson@batesville.k12.in.us or 812-934-2194.

“With this sponsorship, BCEF is trying to do what Andy would have done if he were still with us,” Wilson added. “Andy’s generosity lives on.”
